Theology and Leadership

There seems to be this divide in ministry today where pastors/leaders can’t come to terms. On one side you have great theologians that have studied the Word backwards and forwards and can really tell you anything about Jesus or the Bible. And then on the other side you have great leaders that are entrepreneurial masterminds that can lead and manage just about anything. However, you don’t see much crossover.

I am in no way try to undermine either side and in fact I am trying to bring them together. I do not understand at times the disregard for the “other side”. I thought that we were all on the “same side”. I would really love to see a coming together where the leaders of today acknowledge and celebrate those brilliant minds that have come before them. We should read, digest and preach on the backs of those theologians that gave their lives to God and have given us so much. On the flip side, the current theologians should recognize the Holy Spirit in their peers and celebrate the new works that God is doing in this generation. They do not have to be threatened by the veracity of these “young guys” but rather should re-enforce the mission through them.

I am not sure which “side” you currently find yourself on but what I do know is you have a lot to learn from the “other”. In leadership I try to study those great minds that came before me in my private life and I try to live out what I learn with current leadership practices in my ministry life. We can have the best of both worlds and in fact if we live in both we and the people we lead will GREATLY benefit from it. Plus after all that crossover you will not only be effective in ministry but you will sound really smart too.
